Two years ago, I had the incredible experience of running in the Jerusalem Marathon for Shalva, and it truly changed my life. Shalva is an amazing organization that provides care, programs, and support for individuals with disabilities and their families in Israel—at no cost and regardless of religion, background, or race. Running for them wasn’t just about completing a race; it was about being part of a mission to spread love, inclusion, and hope to those who need it most.
This year, I’m lacing up my sneakers and running again! After everything Israel has been through, especially after October 7th, I feel even more connected and committed to making a difference. Supporting Shalva allows me to combine my love for Israel with a cause I care deeply about, and I’m so excited to take on this challenge once more.
I am running in memory of Avraham Henkin (z”l), a true hero. My family had the privilege of hosting Avraham’s army unit in 2014 through Peace of Mind, and even as an eight-year-old, I looked up to his kindness and warmth. My family, especially my dad, stayed in touch with him for years.
On October 7th, Avraham and his unit were among the first responders to the Hamas terrorist attack in the south. Leading the frontline force at Sha'ar Negev Junction, he and his team held off hundreds of terrorists in intense combat, preventing further infiltration into Negev communities. Avraham fell in action while courageously protecting others. He dedicated his life to Eretz and Am Yisrael until his last breath, and I strive to embody his strength and character every day.
One way I’m honoring his legacy is by running with Shalva. To participate on their behalf and in Avraham’s honor, I must raise $3,600. Every donation, big or small, helps Shalva continue providing therapy, education, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
